Wichita man arrested after Walmart shoplifting incident July 31

Brown, 19, accused of battery, theft, interference with law enforcement officers

Arkansas City Police Department badgeThe Arkansas City Police Department arrested a Wichita man July 31 after a shoplifting incident at the local Walmart Supercenter that resulted in an altercation.

Marquise Dejour Brown, 19, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of interference with a law enforcement officer, plus one count each of battery and possession of stolen property.

Brown was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $3,750 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.

Officers were dispatched at 3:57 p.m. July 31 for a report of shoplifting at Walmart, located at 2701 N. Summit St. The suspect was reported running northbound from the store after being confronted.

A short time later, officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 3100 block of North Summit Street. They learned the incident was connected to the shoplifting report at Walmart.

During the disturbance, a 29-year-old Arkansas City male was injured in an altercation with the suspect, later identified as Brown, who fled on foot and hid in the 3200 block of North Second Street.

Brown subsequently was located in the 3300 block of North Summit Street and taken into custody.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
