East Chestnut Ave. bridge closed all day Aug. 11 for inspection
No detour in place, but traffic recommended to use Kansas or Madison Aves.
The East Chestnut Avenue bridge across the Walnut River will be closed Aug. 11 for a scheduled inspection by Finney & Turnipseed Consulting Engineers.
The closure will occur from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for this state-required fracture critical bridge inspection.
No formal detour will be in place, but Arkansas City residents east of the river are urged to use Madison Avenue or U.S. 166/Kansas Avenue to cross the river. The Chestnut bridge will be barricaded.
This inspection may be delayed if weather is a factor. If so, further notifications will be issued.
The East Chestnut bridge is outside of the City limits and this inspection is under the direction of the Cowley County Public Works and Engineering Office.
