Child dies despite EMS taking over CPR following drowning

ACPD continues to investigate incident that occurred earlier this afternoon

Arkansas City Police Department badgeARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (May 14, 2020) The Arkansas City Police Department is investigating a possible drowning that occurred May 14 in southeast Arkansas City.

The Arkansas City Police and Fire-EMS departments were dispatched at 5:04 p.m. May 14 for a report of a possible drowning in the 800 block of South Boyer Road.

They arrived to find CPR was being administered to an 18-month-old boy and EMS personnel took over the life-saving efforts.

The child was transported by ambulance to South Central Kansas Medical Center, where he later was pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
