City Announces Sanitation Rate Increase

 The City of Arkansas City has thoroughly reviewed its waste management operations, considering factors like fuel costs, labor expenses, and equipment repairs. As a result, they are updating their trash rates, effective August 31, 2023. 

"After carefully evaluating the situation, we've found revising our trash rates for residential and commercial sanitation services is necessary. These updated rates reflect the cost of providing efficient and responsible waste disposal services to our community. We've been working hard to offer reliable waste management without burdening our residents since the last rate increase in 2013," City Manager Randy Frazer said. 

The approved comprehensive fee schedule for the City's sanitation services, including rates and standards for commercial customers, was authorized during the City Commissioners' meeting on July 5, 2023. 

Effective August 31, 2023, the following changes will be implemented for residential customers: 

• Garbage collection and disposition rate for single- and multiple-family households will increase from $18.44 to $22.73 monthly. 

• The replacement fee for each trash cart will increase from $50 to $61.63. 

• Additional poly cart rental for customers will increase from $9.22 to $11.36 monthly. 

"The City of Arkansas City appreciates the understanding and cooperation of its residents during this transition period," Frazer said.
