ADFD Determines Edgewood Lane Fire Accidental

 The Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department has determined that the structure fire on Edgewood Lane on March 12, 2025, was accidental in nature. 

According to Fire Marshal Gary Bowker, the fire originated from a fire pit located behind the house near the patio. Although the homeowner believed the fire was fully extinguished earlier in the morning, strong winds reignited embers, spreading flames to a nearby Jacuzzi tub, dry grass, and eventually the home’s exterior. 

The Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department received the fire alarm at 12:59 p.m. and responded immediately, with automatic aid from neighboring agencies. Upon arrival, crews found a heavy fire at the rear of the home, which had already spread into the attic. Despite challenging conditions, firefighters worked to contain the blaze. However, the structure sustained severe damage and is likely to be declared a total loss. 

All occupants of the home were able to escape without injury, but tragically, one pet was lost in the fire.
