Spielman selected to serve as mayor

During the Tuesday, Jan. 3, City Commission meeting, a unanimous vote was made by commissioners to select a new mayor to serve Arkansas City in 2023.

During the meeting, Outgoing Mayor Kanyon Gingher motioned to select Diana Spielman as mayor. Commissioner Charles Jennings made a motion to second the agenda item. 

Following her appointment, Mayor Diana Spielman motioned to select Commissioner Jay Warren as vice mayor for 2023. The item was seconded by Commissioner Scott Rogers and approved unanimously.

Other appointments during the meeting include adding three governing members of Arkansas City to be representatives on the Strother Field Commission. Commissioners Jay Warren, Scott Rogers, and Charles Jennings were selected.

Commissioner Kanyon Gingher was elected to serve as a representative for Cowley First.

Commissioner Charles Jennings was appointed to serve as a voting member of the Regional Economic Area Partnership (REAP) of South-Central Kansas, with Commissioner Kanyon Gingher serving as an alternate. 

Commissioner Charles Jennings was appointed to serve on the Arkansas City Public Library Board of Trustees. 

Mayor Diana Spielman was designated to serve on the Visit Ark City Board of Trustees. 

Commissioner Jay Warren was designated to serve the Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum Board of Trustees.
