Planning Commission Schedules Public Hearing

The Arkansas City Planning Commission has scheduled a Public Hearing at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, in the Conference Room at the Water Treatment Facility, 400 W. Madison Ave., for review, comments and questions on the City's proposed new Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Maps.

Copies of the proposed Plan and Future Land Use Maps are available for public inspection at the Neighborhood Services Division at City Hall, 118 W. Central Ave. A handout summarizing the proposed plan's key features can also be picked up at the Neighborhood Services Office. In addition, the plan and maps can be viewed on the City's website at www.arkcity.org.

One primary purpose of this Comprehensive Plan is to provide a rational basis for zoning decisions, patterns of land use, and actions (both public and private) affecting the physical development of Arkansas City and its economic growth. This plan seeks to coordinate publicly financed capital improvements, such as streets, sewers, and water lines, with private development activities that produce homes and businesses.

Another primary purpose of this Plan is to identify and articulate the needs and desires of the citizens of Arkansas City.

“The public is invited and encouraged to review the proposed Plan and maps and to attend the January 10 public hearing to hear a summary, ask questions and offer suggestions and criticisms for the Planning Commission's consideration,” said Josh White, Principal Planner.
